Dr. Kevin Barber, C.Psych.

Dr. Kevin Barber is a licensed clinical psychologist. He received his Bachelor’s Degree at Concordia University in Montreal, and his MA and PhD at the University of Waterloo. He completed his clinical residency with the University of Manitoba. Dr. Barber is currently employed as an Assistant Professor with the University of Manitoba Clinical Health Psychology department, and practices full-time with ALPHA Clinical and Consulting. 

Dr. Barber’s approach to therapy is largely informed by Cognitive Behavioural Models with substantial experience in trauma, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and occupational stress/burnout. Dr. Barber’s research centers on trauma and promoting positive emotional functioning. Dr. Barber has previous experience at both London and Winnipeg Operational Stress Injury Clinics and has previously worked in an Ontario-based practice that offered specialty services to municipal police, firefighters, and first-responder populations. 

Dr. Barber works with and trains peer support teams and delivers training with the Wounded Warriors Peer Support Fundamentals program with first responder and police organizations across the country. Dr. Barber enjoys opportunities to provide training and workshops to organizations and develops custom training and educational seminars on request. 

Additionally, Dr. Barber has served nearly sixteen years in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves and continues to serve as a Medic with 17 Field Ambulance, having previously served with 51e Ambulance de Campagne in Montreal, and 23 Field Ambulance in Hamilton.
